{"id":1720,"date":"2010-03-03T08:49:42","date_gmt":"2010-03-03T00:19:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vwgeek.com\/?p=1720"},"modified":"2010-03-04T20:59:57","modified_gmt":"2010-03-04T12:29:57","slug":"motor-rebuild-part-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.vwgeek.com\/?p=1720","title":{"rendered":"Motor Rebuild Part 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Long time for an update but I&#8217;m going full steam to it right now..<\/p>\n<p>I started putting the rods on the crank shaft only to find that the bearings supplied were undersize.<\/p>\n<p>But it was ok, the guys at V&amp;T did a good job so the main bearings were .25 and so are the rod bearings, just a pain in the ass.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a video of what the issue looked like:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">[HTML1]<\/p>\n<p>Anyway i went to Euro Imparts on main north road (enfield) at lunch one day and picked up the correct size bearings.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a video of how it should look:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">[HTML2]<\/p>\n<p>Yes i do realise that the rods dont spin as freely as you would normally see if i were to lube with oil, but i am lubing with molly grease<\/p>\n<p>that is a little stickier (but offers great protection when your gaining oil pressure when turning it over for first time<\/p>\n<p>(note not turning over with spark plugs\u00a0attached).<\/p>\n<p>Below we have the inside of the case all put together and ready to go.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Thats the permatex aviation sealer\u00a0around\u00a0the outside, almost a perfect\u00a0equivalent\u00a0to the sealing liquid they used in 1968 when they built the motor.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vwgeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/img_6344.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1733    aligncenter\" title=\"img_6344\" src=\"http:\/\/www.vwgeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/img_6344-500x375.jpg\" alt=\"img_6344\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.vwgeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/img_6344-500x375.jpg 500w, http:\/\/www.vwgeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/img_6344.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The other side of the case Moly lubed up with lifters in ready to bolt back together.
